1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Stars Compass ("the App", "we", "us") handles information from users. By installing or using the App you agree to the practices described below.

We do not collect: precise location, contacts, photos, microphone data, health data, SMS, call logs, or financial information.

3. How We Use the Data

  • To provide daily, weekly, monthly and annual horoscope predictions personalised to the user's zodiac sign.
  • To send optional push notifications at a user-chosen time.
  • To maintain the user's favorites and preferences across sessions.
  • To show ads that help keep the App free (via Google AdMob).
  • To detect and fix technical problems (crash reports via Firebase).

4. Third-Party Services

  • Google AdMob — serves advertising. See Google's Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy. We use Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request consent in the EU.
  • Google Firebase — Cloud Messaging for push notifications and Analytics for usage insights. See https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
  • Google Cloud Translation — used server-side to translate horoscope content. No personal data is sent — only generic English horoscope text.
  • Render — hosts our backend server in the United States. See https://render.com/privacy.
  • freehoroscopeapi.com — upstream horoscope content provider. We only send the zodiac sign name; no personal data is forwarded.

5. Data Storage and Security

Account data (email, hashed password, birth date, preferences) is stored in a PostgreSQL database managed by Render. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt (cost factor 12). Communications between the App and our servers use HTTPS/TLS.

6. Data Retention

  • Account data: kept until the user requests deletion.
  • Horoscope content cache: 90 days (daily), 12 weeks (weekly), 12 months (monthly).
  • Ad and analytics data: retained by Google per their policies.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is rated for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has registered an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your Rights

You may, at any time:

  • Access the data we hold on you by contacting us.
  • Correct inaccurate data via the Profile screen or by email.
  • Delete your account and all associated data by emailing us.
  • Opt out of personalised ads via Android settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID.
  • Withdraw consent to data processing in the EU via the in-app consent dialog.

9. International Transfers

Our backend is hosted in the United States (Render, Oregon region). By using the App you consent to your data being transferred and stored outside your country of residence.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
